Ricardo Moreira
In 2017, Ricardo Moreira returned to his family's estate located in the demarcated region of Vinhos Verdes, specifically in the Basto sub-region in Northern Portugal, with a strong desire to revive the family's old vineyards. At present, they cultivate 5 hectares of vineyards with soils composed of quartzite, granite, and schist, at an altitude of 180 meters to 550 meters above sea level. Recently, the native grape varieties of the Vinhos Verdes region, including Arinto, Alvarinho, Trajadura, and Vinhão, have been planted in 2 additional hectare.
Penhó Wines are produced with a commitment to preserving the uniqueness of the land and its grapes. The winery is located in an old family property from the 18th century, where the 300-year-old granite mills are preserved, and traditional pigeage (grape treading) still takes place. The mild climate with high precipitation and continental influence allows for the adoption of natural organic viticulture practices. The result are honest wines made with minimal intervention, with the exception of low quantities of sulfur dioxide to preserve their authenticity.
