Aline Domingues
Swapping Paris for Portugal may seem unlikely, and trading Paris for a remote location in Portugal even more so. This is how the Menina d'Uva project came to be. In 2017, Aline Domingues, a molecular biology graduate, initiated her own project by leaving Paris and relocating to her parents' village, Uva, in the Trás-os-Montes region, specifically the Sub-Region of Planalto Mirandês.
The starting point for this project was 10 plots of semi-abandoned old vineyards, totaling 3 hectare, situated at an altitude of 550 meters on schist or clay soils. Viticulture is carried out without the use of synthetic compounds, with extreme care for the soil to restore its vitality after years of neglect. Grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts and foot-trodden, without temperature control or additives. The objective was to create wines that truly reflected the terroir and its details, resulting in a significant sharing of the viticultural heritage of the Transmontana region through lively, unpretentious, and elegant wines.
As for the destination, nobody knows for sure, and that's a good thing. However, it certainly involves acquiring more land and increasing production to surpass 10,000 bottles per year.
